Celebration of the 65-th anniversary of the Chair

Celebration of the 65-th anniversary of the Chair of International Relations and Foreign Policy.

On December 11, 2009, the celebration of 65 th anniversary of the Chair of International Relations and Foreign Policy took place in the assembly hall of the Institute of International Relations.

Solemn meeting started with a brief excursion into the history. Slides with old pictures and archival video excerpts briefed the guests on the history of the Chair which gave birth to the Institute of International Relations. While watching the movie the first students, teachers, professors, alumni of the Chair were introduced to the audience and how the Chair has changed and "grown up" since 1944 was demonstrated.

Initially the Chair of International Relations and Foreign Policy was established in October 1944, as the Chair of History of International Relations. During the years 1944-1955 it was the lead Chair in the Faculty of International Relations. In 1955, the Chair was renamed to the Chair of Modern History and International Relations and continued its work within the philosophy faculty.

Upon the renovation of the Faculty of International Relations and International Law in the structure of the Kyiv University, the Chair of the History of International Relations and Foreign Policy of the Soviet Union became its part. Its current name the Chair of International Relations and Foreign Policy has since 1994.

The first word was given to the Doctor Volodymyr A. Manzhola doctor, Professor  and Head of the Chair of International relations and Foreign Policy. He began his greetings with a video presentation and comments on photos of teachers, staff and heads of the Chair for the last 65 years.

The Rector of Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University Leonid V. Gubersky and Director of the Institute of International Relations Valery V. Kopeika continued formal greetings.

The Rector noted the significance of the Chair of International Relations and Foreign Policy in Ukraine achieved for the 65 years of hard work: "The strong scientific school, a good combination of youth and experience.”

The official part was ended  by the presentation of Chair’s diplomas and gala concert prepared by the sixth-year students. During the concert its participants have demonstrated their dance, singing and acting skills.
