On December 22, 2009 the President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek met with professors, graduate students and students of the Institute of International Relations of Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University. During this visit, Jerzy Buzek said that the EU and the European Parliament pay special attention to the relations with Ukraine. Mr. Buzek reminded that his visit to Ukraine is the second one of the President of the European Parliament during this year. Ukraine is one of the first foreign countries visited by Jerzy Buzek as a President of the European Parliament.
Answering the questions from the students and graduate students of the Institute of International Relations on the upcoming presidential elections in Ukraine, Jerzy Buzek said that the European Union does not support any particular candidate, but supports Ukraine, its people and the democratic processes. That is why these elections should be free, fair and transparent. These are the main concerns of the President of the European Parliament.
More than 300 undergraduate and graduate students of the Institute attended the meeting with the distinguished guest. Ambassador, Head of Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine, Mr. Jose Manuel Pinto Teixeira was also present at the meeting.
Director of the Institute of International Relations Prof. Valery V. Kopiyka thanked the President of the European Parliament for his attention to the students of the Institute of International Relations, handed out a commemorative medal of the Institute and invited Mr. Buzek to attend the Institute during his next visit to Ukraine.
