Stetson Competition at IIR

03 February 2010

On 29-30 January 2010, the Institute of International Relations kindly hosted the Central and Eastern European Rounds of the 14th Annual Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition.

On 29-30 January 2010, the Institute of International Relations of Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University kindly hosted for the first time the Central and Eastern European Rounds of the 14th Annual Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition.

The organizing team (Maryna Medvedieva, Ielyzaveta Badanova, Oleksandra Brovko, Kateryna Ksyondzyk) did their best to produce a cozy and warm atmosphere. In the end, after two preliminary rounds and a final played, everybody seemed satisfied but exhausted of competing, judging, or preparing the venue.

During the Rounds, presentation skills and knowledge of international law of 4 student teams from Kyiv, Odessa, Kharkiv, and Moscow was evaluated by 13 judges (teachers and professors of international environmental law, government officials and practitioners). The two teams competing in the final – the one from the Institute of international Relations of Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University (Champion) and the other from Mechnikov Odessa National University (Runner-Up Champion) – will represent Europe in the Competition Finals to be held in Stetson University College of Law (Florida, USA) on 11-14 March 2010.

Award of the Best Oralist in the Preliminary Rounds went to Daria Davydova from Moscow State Institute of International Relations, the same nomination in the Final was awarded to Yulia Pinchakovska from our Institute. The Best Memorial Award commended the team with the highest score of written memorial (evaluated in advance and separately from team’s oral performance) and went to Mechnikov Odessa National University.

The Organizing Team wishes to give tribute to the administration of our Institute, International Law department, sponsors, and all those who contributed otherwise for helping promote the tradition of hosting the Stetson Competition Regional Rounds and other venues on international environmental law in our Institute.
