International cooperation

International ties of the Institute develop dynamically. They are maintained primarily within the framework of agreements to which Taras Shevchenko University is a party, as well as based on bilateral agreements between the Institute and similar foreign institutions of higher learning, scientific research organisations, and firms.
Within the framework of inter-university agreements, the Institute co-operates with over 60 partner institutions of higher learning from Great Britain, Belgium, Greece, Egypt, Iran, Spain, Canada, China, the FRG, the Republic of Korea, Poland, Russia, the USA, France, Japan and others.
Bilateral agreements on co-operation have been entered into with Moscow State Institute of International Relations of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs (Russia), Iowa University, Brigham Young University (the USA), Carlton University (Canada), the Institute of International Relations of the National University Cheng-Chi (Taiwan), the Hanoi  Institute of International Relations (the SRV), the Institute of International Studies of Wroclaw University and Copernicus University (Poland), Merseburg University of Applied Sciences (the FRG), the Institute of World Economics and Diplomacy (Uzbekistan), Kozani Technological Institute (Greece), Institute of International Relations of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran and others. The agreements provide for mutual exchange with syllabi and curricula, manuals, students and academia, they also provide for joint conferences and workshops, symposia, round table discussions, projects and programmes, etc.
A lot of work is done within the framework of international programmes. The TEMPUS-TACIS programmes provide for cooperation with numerous institutions of higher learning. The Institute was the first in Ukraine to coordinate the project on training specialists in European studies, which was carried out in 1998-2001, jointly with the Free University of Brussels (Belgium), Hull University (Great Britain). The Project resulted in opening the Centre of European Studies. The Centre set up the European Studies Information System for Higher Educational Institutions of Ukraine.
In recent years, the Institute has embarked on implementation of large-scale international projects, including:

  • Legal Studies in Ukraine: Kyiv and Some Regions TACIS Project, in cooperation with Quality and Reliability Co. (Greece), Foundation for Legal Studies (Poland), University Paris-I (Pantheon-Sorbonne, France), Moscow State Institute of International Relations – University (Russia).
  • Innovation Centre for International Educational Programmes INCOS, TACIS Project, together with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Aahen University (FRG) and King’s College (Great Britain).
  • European Law in the Universities of Ukraine TEMPUS Project, together with Ivan Franko Lviv University, Insbruk University (FRG), Kill University, Regensgurg University, Lund University (Sweden) and King’s College (Great Britain);
  • Professional Development of Foreign Policy Analysts, the Canadian Agency for International Development and the University of York Project (Toronto, Canada). The Institute is a recipient of the Project together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the National Institute of Strategic Studies;
  • International Finance in the Universities of Ukraine TEMPUS Project, jointly with Liverpool University (Great Britain), Lesuis Higher School, West Macedonia Technological Institute (Greece), Zaporizhia State Technical University (Ukraine);
  • Project of the program TEMPUS "Quality Assurance Tools for the Management of Internationalisation" with universities: of Carl von Ossietzky the University (Germany), of Radboud University Nijmegen (Netherlands), University of Alicante (Spain), of Nicolaus Copernicus (NCU) in Torun (Poland), of Belarusian National University (Belarus), Volgograd National University, Belgorod National University (Russia), Zaporizhzhya National University (Ukraine), Yerevan National University, Yerevan National Academy of fine arts (Armenia), Slavonic University (Azerbaijan);
  • Project of the program UNESCO "Cultural and medians variety at the era of globalization: Ukrainian context";
  • Program project "Hewlett Packard" (HP) within the "Programs of development of enterprise" - (HP EDP);
  • Program project “Philip Morris is Ukraine” - support of educational and research activity of the Institute;
  • Project of the program of Government of China for technical assistant in providing education and scientific research in the Institute.

The Institute co-operates with foreign partners within the framework of international programmes of UNESCO, INTAS, NATO and others, Adenauer, Bertelsmann, Ebert, Rosa Luxemburg (the FRG) Foundations, Renaissance, Eurasia Foundations, Egyptian foundation for Technical Co-operation with CIS Countries. The Institute hosts the European Documentation Centre, IMF Information Centre, NATO Information and Documentation Centre and the GUAM Information Centre.
Prominent foreign scholars and researchers work at the Institute, civil servants from many countries deliver lectures on international relations. The students, post graduate students and academia have participated in many scientific conferences and workshops.
The Institute’s students are participating in the programs: “Erasmus Mundus”, “TEMPUS”, “DAAD” but other.
At present the Institute has more than 180 foreign students from such countries as: the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Belarus, the Federative Republic of Brazil, the United Kingdom of Great Britain, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Republic of Armenia, Georgia, the State of Israel, the Republic of India, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the People’s Republic of China, the Republic of Korea, the Republic of Latvia, the Republic of Lithuania, the Republic of Moldova, Mongolia, the Federal Republic of Germany, the Republic of Peru, the Republic of Poland, the Russian Federation, Serbia, the United States of America, the Republic of Turkey, Turkmenistan, the Republic of Hungary, the French Republic and other.
