International cooperation

In the year 2002 the Department of private international law commenced the cooperation project with Pittsburg University (USA). The main goal of the Project (coordinator – Seryogin O.Y.) is an elaboration and update of the educational programs on private international law and comparative civil law, professional development of the Department’s members by means of medium-term trainings in the school of law of Pittsburg University, arrangement of staff exchange for the purposes of rendering lectures on current issues of private international law for the students of International Law division of the Institute of International Relations and students of the school of law of Pittsburg University, conducting a conference and roundtable discussion on the areas of private law, strengthening of the material and technical basis of the Institute.


Students were delivered with the course of lectures by professors Ronald Bren, Mark Valter, Douglas Branson and Linda Teshbrook. Professor Mina Brees conducted practical studies on Mediation Procedures on Dispute Settlement. It was the first time, the professors Tereza Brostof and Ann Sinshemer initiated in the Institute the popular in the USA special course “English for lawyers”. Seventeen students successfully graduated the course program and received certificates.


The funds of the Institute’s library were sufficiently replenished with modern studies, hand-books, study guides, work-books of the most popular professors of Pittsburg University. Within the framework of the Project the Department was furnished with modern computers, communications and furniture.


At cost of the Project and with assistance of Ukrainian law firms: “Konnov, Sazhanovskiy and Partners”, “Sergiy Kozyakov and Partners”, “Salkom”, “Vasyl Kysil and Partners” on a permanent basis, the student team is selected to participate in the international competitions on International Commercial Arbitration named after William Vis, Vienna (Austria). In the year 2002 the Institute was represented by Oleksander Olshanskiy and Nazar Chernyavskiy (coached by Vyshnevskiy A.A., Kostromov O.A., Seryogin O.Y.). The team was assisted by Olga Chernyavska, Maksym Kadunov, Olena Perepelynska, Olyana Rudyakova. In the year 2003 the Institute was represented by: Oksana Kirichenko and Markian Klychkovskiy (coached by Kostromov O.A.). The team was assisted by Oleg Boychuk, Anna Ostanina, Olena Perepelynska, Yulia Ostromogylska, Gennadiy Kornev, Kostiantyn Kucherenko, Yulia Konovalyk. In 2004 – Tetyana Khandazhevska, Gennadiy Kornev, Oksana Kirichenko, Borys Lobovyk, Dmytro Marchukov, Olena Polyakova, Oleksandr Sudarikov, Olena Zhadorozna (coached by Kostromov O.A.). In 2005 – Daria Volkova, Borys Lobovyk, Tetyana Khandazhevska, Dmytro Morgunov (coached by Seryogin O.Y.). In 2006 - Oleksandr Sudarikov, Daria Volkova, Olena Zhadorozna, Borys Lobovyk (coached by Seryogin O.Y.). In 2007 – Oleksandr Drug, Olga Stakheeva, Ksenia Korykalova, Dmytro Tkachenko (coached by B. Lobovyk). In 2008 – Andriy Finogin, Ksenia Korykalova, Olga Stakheeva (coached by O. Drug, B. Lobovyk). In 2009 - Andriy Finogin, Sergiy Uvarov, Dmytro Latyshenko (coached by O. Drug, B. Lobovyk, Maine Breese). In 2010 - Andriy Larchenko, Oleh Klymyuk, Michael Latynskyi, Taras Chernikov, Christina Alam (coach – Alexander Droug)


In May 2004 under the Project, the Center of private law at the Department of private and customs law was opened (director – Seryogin O.Y.). The Center’s goal is the development of private law in Ukraine by means of performing of scientific researches in the sphere of private law of Ukraine and other countries, arranging the conferences and round-table sessions, creation of “legal aid private law center”, in cooperation with the publishers work on series Private Law publications, issue of the Yearbook on private international law, preparation of the students for the international competitions on international commercial arbitration named after William Vis, Vienna (Austria), broadening of international cooperation with foreign universities, development courses of private law. Due to modern equipment, new library funds, legal search systems Liga, WestLaw, LexisNexis, the Center possesses all means for performing scientific researches, and the best students invited to participate in the projects of the Center.
