Scientific work and directions of scientific research
The Chair continues to develop as the heart of Ukrainian (Kyiv) School of International Law. Since 1990 three Doctors and more than sixty Candidates of Law were prepared by the Chair. Within the framework of scientific school of the Chair we may mark out the directions of Theory of International Law, History of International Law, International Economic Law, Law of International Organizations, International Human Rights Law, Law of Foreign Relations, International Maritime Law, International Air Law, International Humanitarian Law, Law of International Security, etc.
The teachers of the Chair have founded the academic and research journal “Ukrainian Journal of International Law” in which relevant questions of theory and practice of international law are being examined. This scientific publication became a disputing ground for international lawyers, range for development of interesting scientific findings. The scientists of the Chair actively participated in the work of the Soviet Association of International Law, foundation and work of the Ukrainian Association of International Law.
The researchers of the Chair work on the scientific subject “Integration of Ukraine to the Global and European Legal Space” which is integral part of the scientific research subject of the Institute.
There is a Student Scientific Society of Public International Law affiliated with the Chair. Students actively participate in sessions of European Youth Parliament, scientific conferences, conduct scientific seminars and disputes different problems of contemporary international law. A number of students and postgraduate students of the Department were sent abroad for internship in partner Universities of Great Britain, Belgium, Germany.
In 2004 the Chair started the book series “The Library of the Chair of International Law” which is aimed at securing continuity of scientific work of the teachers, postgraduate students and seekers of the scientific degree attached to the Chair. Within this series monographs and textbooks of present teachers and researchers of the Chair and works of teachers of the Chair of XIX and of the beginning of XX century come out of print.
Gradually the electronic library of the Chair is being formed. This library comprises electronic articles of students and postgraduate students of the Chair, translations of foreign literature on international law, database of undergraduate’s, bachelor’s and master’s thesis on international law.
With the aim of preferment the quality of teaching, activation of scientific research process for educational-methodic and scientific work of the Chair highly skilled teachers and experts of scientific institutions and organizations have continuously been invited by the Chair.
Since February 2011 chair of international holds a specific type of scientific conference – international-legal readings on which the scientific research of teachers, associates and graduates of the chair are presented and discussed. International-legal readings are held every month. Representatives of leading universities and scientific institutions from Ukraine and abroad participate in international-legal readings.
