Country Studies Department



History of department	The country studies department has been established in the Institute of international relations in 2003 on the base of the department of comparative political science and regional studies as a result of introduction on speciality „International relations” of regional studies specialization and preparation to opening in the Institute of the educational speciality „Country studies”. The predecessors of the country studies department were: department of humanitarian disciplines of the preparatory faculty for foreign citizens (1960-1971, 1978-1989); department of social sciences of the preparatory faculty for foreign citizens (1971-1978); department of humanitarian disciplines of the Institute of international relations (1989-1995); department of comparative political science and regional studies of the Institute of international relations (1995-2003). From 1998 year on the base of the department the scientifically methodical center has been established at the UNESCO assistance and functions on the questions of democratic coexistence and culture of peace, which provides methodical assistance to higher educational establishments in introduction in the educational process of educational disciplines on questions of democracy, democratic coexistence, national and international communications, culture of peace, initiates and organizes the conferences on this agenda. There were established two directions of scientific researches on the department in accordance with the specialization: comparative political science and regional/ country studies.
